Paradise Bungalows is one of the leading contenders for claiming credit for inventing the Full Moon Party. Since then this bungalow outfit has gone from a small family resort for backpackers to a big business at the centre of the party, and one of the main options for those keen to be at the heart of the action.
♦ The Original Full Moon Party Venue?
There are two competing versions of the history of the beginning of the Full Moon Party in Haad Rin. One version of event is that it was Mr. Sutti, owner of Paradise Bungalows and the Rock Bar, who organised the first Full Moon Party in 1983 for someone’s birthday. There was a fire, music and a full moon. Legend has it that the party was such fun it became a regular event. Another version of the story has it that some Westerners staying in Koh Samui took a boat to Koh Phangan to have a party. They wanted to escape the electrification happening in Koh Samui and thought Haad Rin the perfect spot to have a hippy soiree.
There is a stone plaque outside the resort announces ‘Full Moon Party – The Original Paradise Bungalows’. It has become a landmark and something everybody poses by in photos.

♦ Reviews of Paradise Bungalows
There are two main strands to reviews of Paradise Bungalows. There are those who loved the place because it is at the heart of the FMP. Guests can walk straight out of their room and into the mayhem on the beach. The room lockers make sure valuables stay safe. And the pool is a great place to chill.
The other strand criticises Paradise for hiking up prices by as much 300% for the party. People comment on how old the rooms are and that the mosquitoes get in. The staff seems indifferent to guest needs and that the pool isn’t used for parties.
In 2017 Paradise Bungalows had almost the same number of ‘excellent’ ratings on TripAdvisor as ‘terrible’ ratings. Some come for the party and overlook any short comings; others see dirt, mosquitoes, shabby accommodation and hear loud music 24/7 and that irritates more than the party exicites.
